The Land of Grimm Brothers and Little Bo Peep

This week is "Fairy Tale" week at Wyatt's school and the kids are supposed to dress up tomorrow in their favorite character.

I asked Wyatt what he wanted to be. I was full of skepticism and doubt.

Wyatt says, "I want to be the Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk. I need a bag of gold, Ma."

"I see," was the only logical reply. Then I thought quickly, "What on earth are you going to wear? You know, for clothes? You can't wear the gold, Kid."

"I don't know, Mom. Help me!"

"Well we're clean out of Kiss Boots to make you in to a giant..." I thought to my self. How in the heck am I going to turn my little five year old into a giant. For myself that would be easy...

Since I am the "look it up" kind of mom, I googled Jack and The Beanstalk and this is the first photo that came up.

This was the answer to all my questions. The Internet.

This costume is just so obvious, it's like a club to the head.

Yeah.... This is going to go over really good at school, now isn't it?

Wyatt does barefoot no problem, so I guess the question is which of my horses (I'm out of cows with the exception of my big ass) gets sacrificed for the large farm animal belt? That's some kind of snack right?

And then I got to thinking that it's highly likely this costume violates the school dress code in the subsection of visible skin allowances.

I think I have the bandanna, but what lovely furry thing can I use for his caveman like tutu? And hat?

And what's up with all these costume days at school anyway? When I was a kid we just went to school in regular clothes, none of these pajama day, crazy day, backward day, etc.

Oh, what's a mom to do?

I'm not crazy sick any more, but this lingering itch in my throat is killing me. Maybe it's the coughing for an hour last night before finally falling asleep. Or it could just be the Vicks vapor rub on my feet. That's supposed to stop coughing right? Well I think it worked.

Maybe it's just the Benadril making me loopy. No, it's the Benadril making me loopy.

Wah. Wah. Wah.

This is a mom's blog after all. Occupational hazards abound.

Costumes in March. Goat costumes?

I'm done now. I really have to take a nap.

Oh you poor thing.
Why not just put jeans on him that are a bit short and a shirt that's too tight.

That is kind of an eerie drawing! Maybe your could tie stuffed animals on him. I like Wyatt's idea of being a giant!

Sorry about your cough. I can't do Benedryl, it makes me feel too weird!

I say you send him in the exact replica of that costume in the picture. Maybe they will ban dress up days after seeing it!

Hope you post some pictures when you get done with THAT costume!

Go to JoAnn's and get some fleece to make a long shirt/dress....like the one I made for Trevor.

Poor Julia! You'd best get digging for that gold...instead of stuffed animals, does he have some realistic looking plastic animals somewhere in his toy chest? You need him to look like a seroius giant, not a friendly one with cute little stuffed bunnies and such ;-) - unless, maybe they were totally mutilated with the eyes and stuffing hanging out ---- nah, too Halloweenish! I give up! Sleep on it! I'm curious to see what you did!
(come vote for me when you can, please!)
Thanks,
Doris

Here's what you do. Go to the fabric shop and get a bucket of fake fur. Glue it together, stick it on your kid, wrap him in one of his dad's belts and voila! Or have him do it while you tend to your throat. You trust him with a hot glue gun, right? Heehee.

I don't know, but I think a big fake beard would look really giantish.

And drawn on bushy eyebrows.

And a shirt cut like zigzags on the bottom.

You're lucky that your son's school does these things. My niece's and nephew's schools don't do anything because they're afraid the kids might break a rule.

We were in "luck" today since Wyatt woke up with a fever and stayed home from school. This virus gunk has been with us too too long!! So no costume to show off. Hee hee.

Doris-Yer cracking me up!!
Frogs-You assume I own a glue gun.
Ratty-Oh you are so right! I can only think of the bad in my gloom. Just slap me!

Ha! I remember in 4th grade we had a costume day and I planned to go as an Indian brave in a breechclout with my bow and arrow. Mom panicked and stayed up most of the night making me a squaw dress. I was not happy at being forced back into girlhood when we actually had the chance to be something else.

The Day the Swallows Came Home

The tree swallows are here already.  They arrived January 30 much to my dismay.  Swooping and calling and chirping their merry song over my ...
