The State of Our Chicken Nation

Sorry, the mystery animals have declined to be on display until next week. They are fickle that way. But instead I have something else to show and tell.

I can always rely on the CHICKENS to provide some good entertainment on our little property.

Well, it has happened again. That is the round up and lock down of our chickens.

They enjoy a free range existence during the fall and winter months and usually get to frolic where ever they please, BUT the warden has spoken. The fowl have been found guilty and confined to their chicken pen for the following offenses:

1. Rototilling our meager landscaping with their miniature bladed feet.
2. Pooping on my deck.

See here?

3. Eating the cat food.
4. Ripping up the weed matting from my landscaped areas.
5. Pooping on Suzi's patio.
6. Eating the cat food.
7. Laying eggs in unusual places.

8. Hiding.
9. Eating the cat food.
10. Clucking and crowing beneath my bedroom window.
11. Killing my seedling plants.
12. Eating the cat food.
13. Intimidating the cats.

You see, they've even taken to swarming the cats when it suits them...

But as always, turn around is fair play.

14. Allowing ones self to be caught and eaten by a great horned owl. (One of my favorite birds came up missing. There has been a lot of hooting happening at night so I am drawing my own conclusions here about the missing bird.)

I am not holding anything against them, obviously. You see they are a roaming pack of marauding peckers who have nothing on their mind but partying and destruction. I'd hate to see what they do to hotel room.

But we had to draw the line in the sand and reclaim what is rightfully ours. These birds are a guilty flock of foul fowl. So slam the door and throw away the keys on the Chicken Nation. There!

Such beautiful ornery beasts. hehehe You'll be proud to know that while looking at your chickens Finn learned the word Chicken and now won't stop saying it. :-D That kitty is GORGEOUS!

I think I am going to rethink the free range options for my flock! Imagine what 11 chickens could do and also the next 60 in the spring! Right now with a foot of snow, they will not leave the coop.

Visit my blog....Blue Guy's departure from this earth is imminent.
The bugger attacked my head. I'm lucky he didn't do real damage.

*&()% bird.
I am going to enjoy the stew.

They do poop everywhere don't they? And I just found half a dozen eggs in the hay pile. *sigh*

Wow. Those chickens are really... well, pretty. The colours on the rooster are amazing. I think if I had chickens the eagles would probably eat them though. Also, I'm pretty sure keeping chickens would be against some kind of bylaw.

Destructive birdies! I had no idea.

Have you considered ANOTHER animal? A herding doggie?

Just what you need...another animal on the funny farm...

At least they've been having fun. I'm just assuming bird brains can have fun though. They must have had fun intimidating the cat.

Well, Julie, if you're anything like my bro-in-law up in Herald CA then your chickens probably have a Taj Mahal chicken coop, so they aren't going to be that sad. Maybe he'll send Harry the Cat over: Harry takes the other cats and goes clubbing every night after my bro-in-law falls asleep. I'll bet for a little catnip he'd take your chickens too....

Cat food must be pretty tasty, my dog steals it too.

But chickens eating cat food? Wierd. Them cats better step it up, I'm a little dissapointed in them.

I love the henshiding in the stroller thingy! Very clever.

(Seriously? Eaten by an owl? That makes me sad. Don't know why because after all, I eat chickens too. But sill.)
