Remember these little beauties? If not check back here.
Here is a baby valley oak seedling and an acorn split in two. The baby tree is still getting nutrients from both halves of the acorn via the root!
This is a live oak baby with the delicate little spines that are visible along the edge of the leaves.
Happy Spring!

Beautiful. I must show my daughter. She's really into plants. A bit of a green thumb, really.
Very cool! Makes me want Spring to come so bad!
Crap spring is arriving ELSEWHERE.. I miss Cali so much these days .. Seasonal or Monthly Effective disorder, I'm not sure:-(
I managed to sprout some acorns once. But they got about 3 inches tall and all died. It was very sad. Not sure what happened. I'll be interested in this project.
Halloo...we grow pecans that way, too...the squirrels help with planting the acorns...
Looks like you got excellent germination! Oh yes, I forget, you are a botanist! Duh! You'd BETTER have a green thumb!!! LOL...the little plants are so pretty.
oh my gosh your babies are growning!!! that is way cool
How fun! It is great to see them popping up.
You really are a legitimate botanist! Saving the earth one tree at a time. =)
I told that lotion dude to send you some. He may send you an email first. I was pretty stren with him about it. ha! I said you were desperate!
How awesome that these little guys are starting to sprout. I have to say I've never seen the little trees start to grow from an acorn. Of course I knew that's how they grow. Just never saw it in action. Now I have. Thanks for sharing.
I love oak trees but seeing as we are in the thick of pollen season here I HATE OAK TREES. I will hate them for a few more weeks as they continue to blanket us in the eye itching, nose running, lung coating yellow death pollen.
Oh, I just LOVE this! Happy Spring to you! Happy, Happy Spring!
I want your camera! You amaze me every day!
It's so amazing to me that something so delicate turns into something so large and stately! You planted quite a few; have they all sprouted?
Awesome! Happy Spring!
Julia- Please go to http://everyday-adventurer.blogspot.com/2009/03/squirrel-strikes-back.html and help Ratty escape from the evil Mr. Nutz. Maybe we can get Mr. Nutz to come watch your baby oaks grow!
