Mr. D can strut.
He thinks he is a bad-ass.
He is a bad-ass.
Bad is as bad does.
He thinks he is a bad-ass.
He is a bad-ass.
Bad is as bad does.
Last week, my Mom was watching Ella and they went into the chicken pen to get up close and personal with the foul. Mr. D took this opportunity to jump my little innocent baby Ella and he thrashed her a couple times just to prove no one is immune to his charms. Ella only suffered a few tiny scratches, but Mr. D's ego swelled. Damned rooster!
However, the wind of change is in the air. This is the nemesis. Jr Barred-Rock rooster thinks he is a bad ass, but at this point in the battle, he has nothing on Mr. D.
This hulking form of a teen-aged rooster has all the brawn and none of the brains to knock the old man off his roost. Also, he has yet to develop the last and most important, manly tool of a rooster. He is not a true cockerel yet. Something on his anatomy is just not big enough...
What needs to grow more you say?
HIS SPURS.
And proving that size does matter, take a look at the weapons that adorn Mr. D's skinny chicken legs. And by the way, to a rooster, "skinny chicken legs" is not an insult.
Making sure to never look Mr. D right in the eye, Jr. Barred-Rock cowers in his corner pretending he is not there. He is practicing in the ways of the ninja, hiding in broad day light beneath the warlords watchful eye. Mr. D will break out a can of whoop-ass in 0.02 seconds if he sees signs of trouble brewing.
This S.O.B. is one proud rooster.
He has the spurs to back up it up.
For the moment.

Size does matter....hehehe....
Poor Ella!
I had no idea about the spurs. Wow! There's no question. His bad ass rules the roost.
Mr. D is one fine lookin' bad ass rooster but he better watch his butt...umm back. Jr. Barred-Rock may just be a rooster to reckon with!
Wow! This post makes me a little afraid of Mr. D, so that other rooster better watch out.
I have just decided that I do NOT want any BOY CHICKENS for pets!!! I am going to have GIRL CHICKENS ONLY...I was saying "girl hens" and "boy hens" but my husband made an insult about my intelligence...hmph...see, even HUMAN ROOSTERS are BAD...full of themselves...
Poor Ella! Is she scared of Mr. D now? He better watch it or the D will stand for DEAD...
Our big rooster, Elvis, got one of his well endowed spurs torn off.Never did figure out how,the Boy found it though, kinda gross.
Maybe Jr. needs to order some of those pills for "natural male\rooster enhancement"lol!
Mr. D is very handsome. He will be the leader of the band for sure when he gets a tail, but I'm kinda partial to the Barred-Rock guy, myself. I can hear Ella at 20, fending off the boys at college, while her roommates interrogate her as to how she learned to take care of herself. "I learned it from a chicken," she replies nonchalantly with an odd twitch of her calf muscles...
Sharkbytes!! You get the award for best comment so far. LOVED IT!! She'll learn to punt that chicken yet.
Blue Guy took a charge at me the other day. Well! I then took a charge at him! Told him he could be dinner if he wasn't careful. So far he hasn't come after me again. Seems males on my farm are after me.
He is a fine looking rooster. Ella needs some spurs of her own.
I was a little worried when you headed into the whole "Something needs to grow more" part, I closed my virgin eyes, took a deep breath, and said a prayer before reading on.
Thank God I did.
LOL
I learn so much on the Internet. All good stuff.
I don't think I've ever seen spurs that big! You're a stronger woman than I. He would have been chicken soup months ago!
Hi Julia,
This morning my son Vinny's hair looked like Mr D. In fact I told him that he was Rooster-man. As for me, I think Vinny & Mr D. are handsome gentlemen.
Have a good day!
Yoli
Ooh! Those are some wicked spurs alright!
For some reason I thought all of the bare butted chickens got the ax!
He looks pretty again!
Mr. D does have "walk". He will be tough when those tail feathers are swinging around with him!
I still don't miss my Bad Boy Rooster chasing me around the yard! Enjoy rocking in his replacement though. lol...
Have a great weekend.
Pam
I had to get rid of our Rooster he was just too mean. Way too mean.

those are sharp looking spurs indeed. poor Ella, she must be emotionally terrified of Mr. D.
Life Ramblings-Ella is certainly more cautious and does not go in to the chicken pen without me now! :)
I love your chicken pictures! I've always wanted to have chickens. I used to look through a catalog with tons of breeds available. Strasser's, maybe?
...that is some serious rooster attitude!
Can't wait to see what happens when the new challenges the old bad old mean rooster. I know there will be photos but hopefully no blood.
