But seeing this giant "real life" carp (if it is not a fake) sent me immediately to a book I can almost recite verbatum. I have probably read A Fish Out of Water ONE MILLION TIMES. It has swum after me from my childhood into my adult life since I now read it to my children. Thus in celebration of this fish...
"I called Mr Carp.
"Please, please help me!" I said.
"I fed Otto too much."
"Oh, dear! said Mr. Carp."
"So you fed him too much!
I knew you would.
I always say 'don't
but you boys always do.
Yes, I will come." - Helen Palmer, A Fish Out of Water.
This book is also illustrated by P.D. Eastman who's drawings most of us will recognize in an instant.
Sorry folks, I just could not help myself. Now I know where the concept for this book really came from. If you have not got it for your kids, go get it!
PS. I just can not believe how BLEEPING big that fish is!

Hummm, I wonder if the guy with the big fish was inspired by this book? It is a really big carp! ;D
I saw this picture on facebook today and it looks like a fake photo to me. First of all, that carp/goldfish/koi looks way bigger than only 30 lbs judging by that photo ... a 30 lbs fish would not look that big. I believe there probably is a 30 lb Koi (or whatever it is) but it's not that one - photo looks exaggerated to me.
So that's what happens when you flush a goldfish...it ends up in a lake in France. Kidding! That is one huge fish!
WOW! The Boy showed me this picture earlier and I though it had to be fake! Wow.....
Julia! Get your checkbook out! I have some beachfront property in Midland Texas that I want to sell you!! Hurry! And OUR goldfish are much, much bigger! Poor lil' runt got caught!!!
lol you sweet and naive gal you...
I can't believe how ORANGE it is
I think it's faked, but it's pretty funny. I actually haven't read A Fish Out of Water.
It does seem awfully monstrous and unbelievable!
I know that carp can grow really big given the right environment, but that seems highly unlikely. hehe
I've never heard of that story. We'll have to check it out.
Hmm, looks like a giant pretend goldfish to me. Loved the quote!
It looks like a giant goldfish! I can't believe that's real.
Definitely not real. :) I'll have to check out that book. Can't say I've read. Which is no surprise, consider how much I LOVE fishing.
Incredible! Like you, I am wondering if that thing is real or not.
