Sex Education According to Wyatt

This morning over breakfast, the following pleasant exchange took place between Wyatt, Mike and me.

Wyatt, who is soon to turn 5 years old, perkily asks, "Do you know how ladybugs have babies, Dad?"

Dad plays the fool saying, "How Wyatt, please tell us."

Wyatt pipes up with his response eagerly saying, "The mom and dad ladybugs go piggyback. Then they have babies."

Mike and I exchange a quick look of shock. Then I suppress my giggles, just barely stifling a snort laugh.

Mike, in total control of his laughter gazes at our son to see what will come next. Then he nods his head in agreement, "Yep your pretty much right about that."

At this point I have to ask, "Where did you learn that Wyatt? From Trevor or something?" Six year old cousin Trevor who lives next door is about all things relating to "the body" and quite curious about parts and reproduction...

Wyatt comes back saying, "No. We just know. Me and Adam just watched all the ladybugs and figured it out."

Mike looks at Wyatt with raised eyebrows saying somewhat sarcastically, "Oh really?"

Wyatt nodding his head emphatically says, "Yeah! We saw it."

So check that off my list of "To Do's" since I guess my boy has this whole sex ed thing in the bag. Let's just hope this ladybug girl does not show up at our house any time in the next 15 years...

It's nice to know that he didn't learn if from Trevor! I was starting to feel a bit of dread at that question. Wyatt and Adam certainly are smart. Hopefully for you that ladybug gal doesn't show up or you and her are going to be in a bit of trouble.

Gracious, I was almost afraid to stop by and see the shenanigans here today! Not as bad as I feared but still pretty bad, WHY are children such dreadfully curious creatures? I gave my son a book (he could read at high-school level by age 7) and said, "Read this, it's all so stupid you won't even believe it."

heh heh. Piggyback. heh heh

Next step the chickens?

I really think this whole ladybug sex was a by product of the chicken. Suzi reminded me that she and Luke were talking about how the chickens go piggy back and that's how the baby chicks are made.

So Suzi is to blame for this whole thing!

That is too funny!

I have the coolest ladybug photos as my background on my computer right now.

I am also feeling so cool right now because I just figured out what ROTFL stands for. Yay me! My daughter thinks I'm a dork!

Wait... I thought "ROTF" referred to what the ladybugs were doing? (smirk)

Ah the stories I have burned in my brain as a child, growing up with prudish parents who couldn't come to grips with explaining things at the zoo, like "No son, that zebra is not having a baby zebra... um, actually that's a BOY zebra, um... ooh, let's look at the peacocks!"

Go Wyatt, ask those questions! Keep your mom and dad just one step ahead of you :-) That's what makes them parents!

Drakonis

How great that they figured it out by themselves. I love it when someone else teaches your children the important stuff. lol

Next time he starts asking too many questions just dismiss him by telling him to go out and watch the ladybugs. :D

Nature is an excellent teacher. At least the lesson hasn't moved beyond ladybugs...but I'm sure that'll come soon enough when they realize most animals piggyback! lol

I think you are good until he starts asking about why it's ok to give his little sister piggyback rides!
