Some One is Earning His Keep!!!!
Proud Jimmy Kitty brought home a baby ground squirrel today.
Finally, a cat who is doing something more than acting like a couch ornament!!!!
After a few kind comments in favor of the ground squirrels I thought I should present my case for wanting their extermination... This photo should leave no room for question ye squeemish ladies.
Holes in my arena just will not do. The vermin dig from around "E" and burrow beneath the arena. They are naughty little rodents.
I love them too with their big liquid eyes but they are destructive little demons. Facts are facts...
Now, if you have any other sappy ideas about the ground squirrels just check out this HERE post.

Oh my!
Mine just brought home chipmunk...ugh/
My pair of kitties caught a mouse, once. They left the head on the kitchen floor as a gift.
Have you seen his new resting spot? Under the Budlieah. Nice work Jimmy, nice to know that I am not the only executioner.
Poor squirrel.
The cats around here have been catching gophers which is good.
Lol! Our cat always leaves her winnings right by my husband's truck door on the driveway. She's so sweet!
Does he have a brother? We are overrun with rats and ground squirrels. Send help quick!
My dog just caught a rabbit... *Shudders*
Oh, dear. I feed the little ground squirrels! I love them. They are so sleek and pretty, such bright eyes.
Some of you ladies know how naughty the GS are!! But I posted a picture of their naughty behavior since I can see I left out some background information. :)
I thought I was looking at a lion at first glance. The fierceness in the eyes and that proudly aggressive strut show what a great predator Jimmy is.
i understand...that hole could hurt your horse, cause a stumble, mayber pull a tendon, not to mention ruin the hard work when it comes to building an arena. i am surprised your squirrels do that...mine have left my arena alone for over a year now. maybe it is because i do not have sand on it yet...jimmy kitty was just doing what God wanted hime to do...little squirrel wasn't paying enought attention...sad but it happens.
CHEER!!! for Jimmy! Gosh that is a sexy cat!
Julia, you do my pragmatic heart good. Suzi gets big kudos too for toting the .22 and taking care of business. I do the same with possums. :D
Luckily I don't have squirrel problems. I do, however, have problems with couch potato cats. Let me know when you figure out how to fix that!
Yay for Jimmy kitty! I love his proud strut with his tail all puffed out!!
So Julia, do you keep your camera around your neck at all times?? You always capture the best shots!
Hi Alex,
I actually was siting in my office writing a boring wetland report and saw Jimmy run past my window. I was all "COOL" and I ran into the house and grabbed the camera. Surprisingly enough Wyatt saw him to and was all excited since he spotted him about 2 seconds after me. I grabbed the camera and ran outside and got it. Then back to work...
Would you loan Jimmy out for a while? He and cat Max would make fearless companions in their outdoor activities!
Are they the same as prairie dogs or just closely related? I remember your story about your poor horse Genny. Yes, I can see why its hard to coexist with them.
Hibiscus Moon-Ground squirrels are pretty much the west coast's answer for prairie dogs. Ground burrowing critters... They are essential in grassland ecosystems but are a terror on man made stuff!!
You certainly don't want a horse tripping in one of those holes. I understand!
Wow. That cat has a "Yah, that's right, I got you, you %^#^%#&ing squirrel" look on its face. Yowser!
I could sent my mother over your way. She is quite the sharp shooter!
We don't have many squirrels here. They are few and far between so I'm one of those sappy ones who say poor squirrel :(
Animals will be animals! I hate it when my cats drag their kill home to me.
GREAT photo of Jimmy Kitty at work! :) There is no debate here, if it's between the horses and ground squirrels! hehe i know they are very destructive little critters.
Sure hope you have an AWESOME day! :D
oh, my mom's cat use to bring all kinds of "presents" to her doorstep.
I feel this way about Chipmunks. They are digging holes everywhere in the garden in the lawns all over. They are making us crazy.
poor squirrel but lovely kitty in action.
Now THAT is a good cat!

Hail the mighty hunter!
Our cats are working animals too. They help keep down the rodents and sparrows. Interestingly, they almost never catch native songbirds such as finches or cardinals, which are far more cautious. Sparrows and starlings will steal cat food out of the dish. Hey, if it's IN the dish, it's FOOD, even if it has feathers.
